DHR is responsible for implementing the HUD-certified Housing Counseling Program activities involving:
- Assisting clients with housing problems and solutions;
- Providing debt and money-management counseling;
- Providing information on tenants'/landlords' rights and responsibilities and Fair Housing
- Reverse Mortgage Counseling (Home Equity Conversion Mortgage, or HECM)-coming soon
- Foreclosure Intervention Counseling
- Pre-purchase and first time home buyer counseling
- Providing referrals to other agencies and resources as needed
- PG&E HEAP program application assistance
- Seasons of Sharing program application assistance
- Keep Your Home Program-mortgage assistance for California Homeowners
Currently, all housing counseling services are provided free of charge.
